Study tips for Marathi CCL
Targeted advice to improve your score faster
🩺 Master healthcare vocabulary

Healthcare is the most common CCL domain. Learn medical terms (diagnosis, prescription, referral, physiotherapy) in both languages. Practice saying medication names and dosages clearly.

🔢 Never miss a number

Numbers, dates, and amounts carry the heaviest deductions. When you hear '3 tablets twice daily' or '$450 bond,' write it on your notepad immediately before interpreting.

🎙️ Match the speaker's register

A formal doctor should sound formal in your Marathi interpretation. A worried parent should sound worried. Register mismatch is a common error that costs marks.

⏱️ Aim to start within 5 seconds

NAATI marks delivery speed. If you hesitate for more than 5 seconds after the chime, you lose delivery marks. Use the practice sessions to build confidence starting quickly.

📝 Use the note-taking pad

The real exam allows note-taking. Practise using NAATI Practice's built-in note pad (available on every segment) to jot keywords before you interpret.

Frequently asked questions
Everything about Marathi CCL preparation
What is the NAATI CCL Marathi test?

The NAATI CCL (Credentialed Community Language) Marathi test assesses your ability to interpret dialogues between Marathi and English in real-world settings. A passing score (63/90) awards 5 points towards an Australian permanent residency visa under the General Skilled Migration program.

How hard is the NAATI CCL Marathi exam?

The CCL exam is challenging — you need to score at least 63 out of 90 across two dialogues. Common errors include omissions, meaning distortions, and incorrect register. Consistent practice across all 12 topic domains significantly improves your score.

How many dialogues are in the NAATI CCL Marathi exam?

The exam includes two dialogues, each with 9–11 short segments. Each segment is worth up to 5 points with deductions for errors. The total exam time is approximately 35 minutes.

Can I practice NAATI CCL Marathi online for free?

Yes. NAATI Practice offers a free trial with 2 topic modules and 1 attempt per dialogue — no sign-up or credit card required. Paid plans unlock all 12 domains and unlimited attempts.

What topics appear in NAATI CCL Marathi dialogues?

Topics include Healthcare, Legal & Police, Immigration, Banking & Finance, Education, Housing, Employment, Social Services, Community, Family, Emergency Services, and Mental Health — all covered in our practice library.

What Marathi dialect is used in the NAATI CCL exam?

The exam uses Standard Marathi (Praman Marathi), the variety used in education and formal contexts. Avoid heavy regional varieties (e.g. Varhadi, Malvani) and avoid Marathi–English code-mixing in your interpretations. NAATI examiners expect formal register.

Can I use Marathi–English mixing in my NAATI CCL Marathi interpretation?

No. Marathi–English mixing (code-switching between Marathi and English) is penalised. You must interpret fully into the target language — if interpreting from English to Marathi, your response should be Standard Marathi throughout, not a mixture.

How important are numbers and dates in Marathi CCL?

Very important. NAATI CCL scoring deducts heavily for incorrect numbers, dates, medication dosages, monetary amounts, and addresses. Practise listening for these specifically and always reproduce them exactly — Marathi number words (ek, don, teen…) must match the source exactly.

How much practice do I need before the Marathi CCL exam?

Most candidates benefit from 4–8 weeks of daily practice covering all 12 topic domains. A common strategy is to attempt 2–3 dialogues daily, review model answers, and run at least 2 full mock tests in the week before the exam.

What is the pass mark for NAATI CCL?

You need a combined score of 63/90 across the two exam dialogues. Each dialogue is marked out of 45. A score of 29/45 is the minimum per-dialogue threshold to avoid a complete fail on that dialogue alone.

How many Marathi dialogues does naatipractice.com have?

We have 80 Marathi dialogues across all 12 NAATI domains, each with a model answer and pre-recorded audio, and unlimited attempts.

What is the single most common mistake Marathi candidates make?

Hindi interference. Marathi and Hindi share the Devanagari script and most Marathi speakers here use Hindi daily, so Hindi words slip in unnoticed — ज़्यादा instead of जास्त, लेकिन instead of पण. This is where Marathi candidates quietly lose Quality of Language marks.

What a NAATI CCL Marathi dialogue actually looks like

This is a real segment from our Health module — one of 80 Marathi dialogues across all 12 NAATI domains. The speaker talks, you interpret, and your rendition is compared against the model answer below, segment by segment.

The speaker says (English → Marathi)

“Good morning. I have your blood test results back and I need to discuss them with you today.”

A model Marathi rendition

शुभ सकाळ. तुमच्या रक्त चाचणीचे निकाल आले आहेत आणि मला आज तुमच्याशी त्याबद्दल बोलायचे आहे.

Miss the diagnosis, drop the figure, or paraphrase it away and the deduction model marks it — the same way a NAATI examiner would.

Where Marathi candidates lose marks

These are Marathi-specific. They are not the generic advice you will find on every CCL site — they are the errors that show up when Marathi speakers interpret under time pressure.

Hindi interference is the Marathi killer

Marathi and Hindi share Devanagari, and most Marathi speakers in Australia use Hindi daily. Under exam pressure Hindi words slip in — ज़्यादा for जास्त, लेकिन for पण. The examiner is listening for Marathi, and this is where marks quietly disappear.

तुम्ही, consistently

Formal address throughout when interpreting a professional.

Marathi’s own words for everyday things

पण, जास्त, कारण, म्हणून — the connective tissue of the language is exactly where Hindi creeps in.

लाख / कोटी

Convert carefully and repeat the figure in full. Numbers are the heaviest deduction in the marking scheme.
